The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a Fresh Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG Ever
The speculation around the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio warned that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team is likely designing a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it sparked the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, branching plots, and deep class systems—traits that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs only possible if you're playing as a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also notoriously permissive, letting players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be approached in a variety of manners, often in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is this design philosophy that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, players can get ready for more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
